USC athletic director Pat Haden not firing football coach Lane Kiffin after UCLA loss

LOS ANGELES -- USC Athletic Director Pat Haden today gave embattled head football coach Lane Kiffin a vote of confidence, stating that Kiffin would return next year.

A variety of media outlets reported that Haden was standing by Kiffin in the aftermath of Saturday's 38-28 loss to UCLA -- only the second Trojan defeat to the Bruins in 15 years.

USC this season was the Number 1 pick in the college football polls, but lost to Stanford, Arizona and Oregon previous to losing to UCLA.

The Trojans trailed UCLA 24-0 in the second quarter Saturday in the rain, and couldn't catch up, despite closing the margin to 24-20 in the second half.

The Bruin victory comes a year after USC humiliated UCLA, 50-0, at the Coliseum.
